Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) play a critical role in the landscape of higher education. This summary provides a snapshot of the communities that are home to HSIs, including characteristics of their Latino population and the presence of Latino museums. We find that communities with HSIs and emerging HSIs differ from communities without them in many ways. Specifically, communities that HSIs serve include a higher percentage of Latino population, and the Latinos in these communities are more likely to be foreign-born, to speak Spanish at home, and to have lived in the same county for more than one year. Communities with HSIs and emerging HSIs are also more likely to have a Latino museum, which points to the potential for increased collaboration between HSIs and Latino museums. Future research should assess the impact of partnerships between HSIs and Latino museums on outcomes for students and museums alike.
