The Biden administration reported that the number of veterans experiencing homelessness dropped by 11 percent since 2020. According to the most recent Point-in-Time count, there were 33,136 veterans experiencing homelessness, compared with 37,252 in 2020. “One veteran experiencing homelessness will always be one too many, but the... count shows that we are making real progress in the fight to end veteran homelessness,” said Denis McDonough, Veteran Affairs Secretary.

The average buyer in today’s housing market is older, whiter, and wealthier, according to the National Association of Realtors’s annual profile of homebuyers and sellers. The survey, which took place from July 2021 through June 2022, also found the share of first-time buyers fell to 26 percent, dropping to the lowest level in four decades.

Coloradans eligible for the state’s emergency rental assistance program have one more chance to apply for aid before the application portal closes on November 15. The program has distributed more than $300 million to 36,000 households, but a share of the funds remains unspent. “With ERA going away in 2023, renters across the state and renters’ advocates are losing their most powerful tool for housing stability,” said Zach Neumann, cofounder of the COVID-19 Eviction Defense Project.

A school district in St. Petersburg, Florida, announced a request for proposals to redevelop a historic building that was once a vocational school and turn it into affordable housing for teachers and school staff. “Giving people an affordable place to live is something you can do. You can’t provide that for every single employee obviously. But you can help ease the burden for as many people as you can,” said Clint Herbic, the district’s associate superintendent over operational services.
