Caroline Lauer and Matthew Schreiber, who are both Masters in Urban Planning candidates, will each present research they carried out as 2017 Gramlich Fellows in Community and Economic Development.
Lauer's presentation on Bounce Forward, Not Back: Leveraging Resiliency to Promote Equity will use case studies on Brownsville, Texas and Umpqua, Oregon to explore how community-based organizations are trying to link efforts to address immediate issues, such as affordable housing and economic development, with the need to prepare for the increasing threat of natural disasters.
Schreiber's presentation on Preserving Affordable Housing in Emerging Markets: Lessons from Atlanta, Cleveland, and Philadelphia will discuss how community groups and public officials in cities where housing markets seem to be heating up are trying to mitigate the negative effects associated with those price increases.
