Housing and Health: How Cities Are Making a Difference

When:
Where:
Washington, DC
Hosted By:
Urban Institute

The Urban Institute and the National League of Cities will explore the role of mayors and city leaders, in partnership with key social-sector stakeholders, in achieving better health outcomes through safe, affordable housing initiatives. Speakers will discuss emerging city-level models, based on a recent convening of mayors and city teams, and share new research from the Urban Institute on unique health and housing interventions at the neighborhood and city level. The event will explore four topics: the leadership role of mayors and city agencies in addressing housing and health, especially targeting improved outcomes for children and families; the essential role of data, partnerships, and financing models in advancing healthy housing approaches; gaps in research and practice that need to be addressed to move the needle on the health, social, and economic consequences of poor housing; and the impact of changes at the federal level on city-led efforts to improve housing and health outcomes.
