Decisionmakers at all levels rely on Urban's trustworthy information for guidance on revitalizing our housing ecosystems to provide greater access to security and opportunity.

    Janneke Ratcliffe is a nonresident fellow at the Urban Institute. She formerly served as vice president of Urban’s Housing and Communities Division and the Housing Finance Policy Center, and she currently serves as housing policy adviser to the North Carolina governor’s office. 

    Over a career that spans industry, the nonprofit sector, academic research, and the federal government, Ratcliffe has focused on increasing access to economic opportunity. She came to Urban from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, where she served as assistant director, leading its Office of Financial Education. Previously, she was executive director of the University of North Carolina Center for Community Capital, guiding research on how mortgage markets and financial services can facilitate financial security and prosperity for more people. Ratcliffe has also served at GE Capital Mortgage, the Center for American Progress, and Self-Help, where she was instrumental in high-impact programs in affordable and Community Reinvestment Act mortgages and community development finance. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she studied economics and French.
